Platelet rich plasma

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) consists of two major elements: Plasma, or the liquid portion of blood, and platelets, a blood cell that plays an important role in healing throughout the body. Platelets are known for their clotting abilities, but they also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration.

How is a PRP injection composed?

A medical professional will collect a small sample of the patient's blood using venipuncture. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge, a device that rapidly spins the sample, separating the other blood components from the platelets and concentrating them within the plasma. After the specimen has been separated the plasma and platelets will be collected and prepaid for injection.

How do I receive an injection?

PRP injections are considered an investigational procedure and are not covered by insurance. While the equipment and injection itself have been cleared by the FDA, the procedure has not been officially approved. For consultation regarding this treatment and pricing, please contact our office.
